Head Office News

5 weeks into our new habitat in the Shires and I would like to share with you some of the matters we are getting to grips with ‘warts and all’.
By and large we are content with the relocation and very happy in our new home. Those that have visited the new HO report that access and transport routes are a breath of fresh air and being in the Midlands the maximum travelling time of the average member to HO has been reduced. The modern business environment with conference facilities, restaurant, breakout areas and fast broadband connections are a major attraction.

League Sanctioning

The relocation of Head Office has given us an opportunity to review some of our processes and procedures.  We have recognised that a lot of processes have been a bit disjointed and evolved over time into many different forms.

The most time consuming job for many of our members as well as us has been the League Sanctioning process.  We have therefore reviewed the process and streamlined it to make it easier for League Secretary’s to complete, and quicker for Head Office to process.

John Broadhurst - Not a Forgotten Man

On Valentines day we mark 50 years since the second perfect game rolled by an English bowler.

John Broadhurst was the second man in the UK to roll a 300 game. Who remembers second?  Well, John for one, and all those players that finish runner up in tournaments or with silver medals.  Albert Kirkham was the first at the Top Rank Bowl in Chester on the 5th of December 1965. Dave Maberley

It is with deep regret and sadness that we have to report the sad passing of one of the BTBA’s honorary life members, Dave Maberley.  Dave was a regular tournament bowler when the sport was establishing itself in this country and he went on to help and assist in the running of the Premier Tenpin Bowling Club (PTBC).  Dave served the BTBA on both local and national committee’s and during his time established many leagues that are still running today.  More recently Dave has served on the Bedfordshire Area committee and with his wife Pam established Dunstable’s league program.

The BTBA would like to recognise and thank Dave for his years of dedicated service and pass on our sincerest condolences to his wife Pam and his family.
